NFT Shark Rarity

The Originative Cryptosharks NFT collection is on the Polygon chain and can be seen on OpenSea at...

https://opensea.io/collection/originative-cryptosharks

If you are new to this it is important to know NFT value thrives on rarity. Every collection has traits that are less frequent than others. Sharks are no exception, and the rare traits are pretty straightforward and easy to search for.

In an NFT collection every individual picture is unique, but you might hear the term "1 of 1" (1/1). This means there is an individual piece with completely unique features not shared by other sharks. Keeping in mind only a small portion of the shark collection is revealed as of 09/21/2021, there is currently only a single 1/1 shark I have seen called Sinbad #1.

Searching For Properties/Traits

On OpenSea to the left of the Shark collection is a list of properties. By dropping a property list down you can see how many of each trait exist. Scrolling to the bottom of the list will show you the rarest ones (lowest numbers). Check next to one or more to see the sharks with the trait you choose.

Your average Originative Cryptoshark has three main traits...

1. Character or Place
2. Clothes Color
3. Skin Color

There are other properties I will discuss below, but these others do not always appear on every shark.

Character or Place Rarity

Only three characters currently look to be more rare than average. The Pharaoh, Judge and Doctor have a 1% rarity.

Clothes Color Rarity

There are many truly rare clothes colors at the bottom of the list... too many to list here. Just be aware if you choose 'Light Green' there are many green shades. Combining a rare clothes color with another rare trait can help you nab a really desirable shark.

Skin Color Rarity

There are very few differences in the rarity of skin color within the collection. The ones with the lowest numbers are only slightly more rare than the most common colors. I wouldn't take shark skin color into account when searching solely for rarity.

The Rest Of The Properties

These are the properties which make an average shark rare. It is important to note only about 50% of the collection is revealed at the moment, so the percentages on these traits may change, but I would hope not drastically. Ideally you want to combine another rare property, such as clothes color, with these. This is more difficult to do than it may sound because the vast majority of the collection either has none of these traits, or has just one of them on a common shark. There are no sharks I have seen yet with more than one of the rare traits below.

Here are the rare properties with a 1% or below rarity as of September, 2021.

Ears
Headset - .5%
Ape - .4%
Camel - .4%

Glasses - Reading Glasses and Girly Round Frames have special rarity. I cover them below.
Square Sunglasses - .5%
Round Frames - .5%
Square Reading Glasses - .5%

Hands - Every Judge has a Gavel and every Pharaoh has a Gold Bracelet, so I do not consider those rare. If some Judges did not have Gavels I would consider it a rare trait.
Bouquet - .5%
Smart Watch - .5%

Head - All Devil's Wings have Devil's Horns, so I don't consider this a rare trait on it's own. Search for the Wings (below) to see the better list.
Military Helmet - .5%
Party Hat - .5%
Fez - .5%
Magician's Hat - .5%
Baseball Cap - .5%
Cowboy Hat - .5%
Crown - .4%
Arabian Hat - .3%

Moustache
Imperial - .5%

Mouth
Cigarette - .5%
Pizza - .5%
Flower - .5%
Cigar - .5%
Pipe - .5%

Neck
Necklace - .1%   (a particularly rare trait)

Wings
Angel - .4%
Devil - .4%

Reading Glasses

This trait is special in the shark world. It is the only one that can be combined with the rare traits above giving it an additional layer of rarity. It is important to note the properties assigned to Reading Glasses are particularly inaccurate. For instance, check the Reading Glasses box and see all the sharks with this property but without any glasses on. This could make any of these you find even more rare than the percentages may indicate.

Here is a Smart Watch Teacher with and without Reading Glasses.

Other Rarity Considerations

I know of three other rare features I did not list above, and I suspect people will inform me of others as the collection matures. When I find them I will list them below.

Feature 1 - Girly Round Frames

If you pull down the Glasses property you will see Girly Round Frames with a quantity of 1 at the bottom. This is a super rare feature, but there are actually 3 of them... two just don't have the property as Girly Round Frames.

These are Sharks #25, #1070 and #1415.

Feature 2 - Odd Sharks Out

The shark collection is full of odd irregularities that are hard to find, but make some of the sharks special. With some searching you can probably find some of your own. For example, search the Character or Place trait called 'Maldives.' What do you notice about all of the shirts on these sharks? Flowers? All except for 3 that is. I am not sure if these were intentional, but they do make these 3 sharks different, and different is good when it comes to NFTs.

Feature 3 - Top 100 Sharks

This is not really a rarity feature, but the first 100 sharks minted all are/were priced at .05 ETH instead of .005.  This set them apart, and for those not brilliant people like me who bought one anyway, well, who knows, maybe they will be worth more at some point. They did have some of the best rarity traits in the collection, and many have never been sold if you want to check them out specifically.
